Yesterday, I went to the beach. The beach is a wonderful place! As soon as I got there, I went swimming. The water was warm. That made me happy. One thing surprised me. The water was salty! I didn’t expect that. But it was still fun. The waves kept jumping up to splash me!After I went swimming, I played in the sand. It was soft. It felt like sugar under my feet. I had fun making sandcastles. We used buckets. First we filled them with sand. Then we turned them upside-down on the ground. Then we lifted the buckets. You have to do this carefully. If you lift the bucket carefully, all the sand stays in the shape of the bucket.Later, the waves got stronger. The tide pushed them further up the beach. My sandcastles were mighty. They withstood the first few waves. But after while, they broke down. The water flowed over my sandcastles, reducing them to little mounds. My hard work was for nothing, and I was sad.Mom wanted to cheer me up. So we went for a walk. I found many treasures. I found some white, round things. Mom said they were sand-dollars. I asked if I could use them to buy an ice-cream. Mom just laughed. We continued to walk. We saw lots of other cool things. We saw a group of seagulls, fighting over a french fry. We saw a hermit crab, carrying a heavy shell on his back. We even saw some jellyfish, washed up on the beach. I wanted to take a closer look at them. But Mom told me that they would sting me if I touched them. So I avoided them. I searched for more shells to put in my bucket instead. The sun began to go down. It was time to go home. We packed up the car and drove away. I was tired. I slumped in my seat. I was ready to go home. But I was also sad to leave. I wanted to go back the next day. I asked mom if we could, but she said we couldn’t. Then she showed me something awesome. She picked up one of my shells. She put it to my ear. It sounded like the ocean.
